Xbox App Begins Beta Testing Copilot for Gaming
Microsoft has officially launched a beta version of its Copilot for Gaming experience, bringing AI-driven assistance to the Xbox mobile application on both iOS and Android platforms. This new feature is designed to serve as a secondary screen companion, allowing players to retrieve information without interrupting their gameplay.
Capabilities and Functionality
The AI tool integrates data from a user’s personal Xbox account—such as play history, achievements, and subscription status—with public information indexed by Bing. According to Taylor O’Malley, principal program manager at Xbox, the goal is to provide a seamless experience that avoids distracting users from their primary gaming sessions.
Users can utilize the assistant to handle a variety of queries, including:
- Checking current Gamerscore and receiving tips on how to increase it.
- Getting personalized game recommendations based on specific genres or preferences.
- Verifying the status or renewal dates of Game Pass subscriptions.
- Retrieving specific details about past achievements, such as the last one unlocked in a particular title like Starfield.
Availability and Future Rollout
Currently, the beta is limited to English-speaking users aged 18 and older across a wide range of regions, including the United States, Brazil, Australia, Japan, and several countries throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia. Microsoft has confirmed that it intends to expand the beta program to additional territories in the future.
Moving forward, the company plans to enhance the Copilot’s capabilities by introducing more personalization and advanced features, such as proactive in-game coaching, to further assist players in navigating their gaming libraries and account activity.
