Apple Prepares Dedicated Gaming App for iOS 19 Launch
Ahead of the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple is shifting its focus toward a more robust mobile gaming strategy. The company is preparing to launch a standalone gaming app as part of the iOS 19 update, marking a significant evolution for its ecosystem.

A New Hub for Gaming
The upcoming application is expected to replace the current Game Center. By consolidating gaming experiences, Apple aims to create a central hub that integrates Apple Arcade with enhanced social and competitive tools. According to recent reports from 9to5Mac and confirmed by Bloomberg, the app will feature:
- Integrated leaderboards and personalized game recommendations.
- Dedicated challenges to drive user engagement.
- Social features potentially linked to iMessage and FaceTime for multiplayer coordination.
Strategic Acquisitions and Market Positioning
Beyond software, Apple is strengthening its internal development capabilities. The company has finalized the acquisition of RAC7, the studio behind the popular Apple Arcade title Sneaky Sasquatch. This marks Apple’s first official game studio purchase, a move that mirrors broader industry trends.
Other major tech players have pursued similar strategies to capture the mobile market. Netflix, for instance, has aggressively acquired multiple studios since the 2021 launch of Netflix Games. Apple’s move comes as cloud gaming continues to gain traction, with Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming currently leading the charge in allowing users to stream titles without the need for large local downloads.
While Apple has long offered a subscription-based model through Apple Arcade—featuring titles like Stardew Valley—the development of a dedicated interface suggests the company is looking to elevate mobile gaming from a secondary feature to a core pillar of the iOS experience.
