TikTok has introduced a hidden, interactive gaming experience directly within its direct messaging interface. The feature, which functions as an “Easter egg” for users, allows friends to compete against each other in a vertical jumping challenge designed to bring a more competitive and playful tone to private conversations.

The core objective is to reach the highest point possible by hopping across a series of alligators. The gameplay requires precision, as players must navigate different types of obstacles that influence their ascent:

• Standard Alligators: The primary platforms for your upward movement.
• Skeleton Alligators: These must be avoided entirely, as landing on them ends the game.
• Broken Alligators: These platforms disappear after a single use, forcing players to move quickly to the next level.
• Boost Items: Landing on floating emojis or alligators equipped with propellers provides a speed boost, accelerating your climb.

To access the game, users simply need to send a single emoji in any one-on-one or group chat. Tapping that emoji launches the experience. Notably, the specific emoji sent becomes the icon that floats across the screen during the game to provide a speed boost. Throughout the session, the top-right corner of the screen tracks both your current score and the high score of your opponent.

The company confirmed to TechCrunch that the feature is rolling out globally. By integrating these mini-games, TikTok is following a trend set by competitors. Instagram introduced a similar hidden emoji-based game two years ago, which involves keeping an emoji afloat with a paddle. Meanwhile, other platforms are also exploring chat-based entertainment; for instance, Meta has been prototyping a basketball game for its Threads platform.
