Meta Launches Forum: A New Reddit-Style App for Groups
Meta has quietly introduced “Forum,” a new standalone mobile application specifically designed to streamline interactions within Facebook Groups. The platform, which mirrors the functional style of Reddit, aims to provide users with a dedicated space for community-driven conversations and information sharing.

The app’s existence was first identified by social media consultant Matt Navarra. Users can log in using their existing Facebook credentials, which then populates the interface with their current groups, activity history, and profiles. A notable feature allows users to post under nicknames, maintaining a structure similar to the core Facebook experience while ensuring that all content shared on Forum remains visible within the corresponding groups on the main Facebook platform.
AI-Driven Community Tools
A primary focus of Forum is the integration of artificial intelligence to improve how users navigate and manage group content. The application includes several key features:
- Ask Tab: An AI-powered tool that aggregates answers from various group discussions, helping users find information without scrolling through individual threads.
- Admin Assistant: A dedicated AI feature designed to support group administrators with content moderation and community management tasks.
Meta describes the app as a space built for “deeper discussions” and “real answers.” By prioritizing conversational feeds over trending content, the company intends to make it easier for members to track ongoing dialogues and resume discussions where they left off.
A Shift in Meta’s Product Strategy
The launch of Forum follows a broader strategic shift at Meta. According to recent reports from the Wall Street Journal, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has indicated that AI-driven efficiencies are enabling the company to accelerate its development cycle. During internal discussions, Zuckerberg suggested that the company is exploring the potential to launch dozens of new apps, though he emphasized a need for a measured approach.
This is not Meta’s first attempt at a group-centric standalone application. In 2014, the company launched a dedicated Groups app, which was eventually discontinued in 2017. Forum arrives alongside another recent release from the company, “Instants,” an app focused on sharing disappearing photos with Instagram contacts.
The company continues to expand its ecosystem with specialized tools, though it faces ongoing scrutiny regarding its tendency to release apps that mirror the functionality of existing competitors, such as previous ventures like Meta Edits, which drew comparisons to ByteDance’s CapCut. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the new release.
