Google Revamps Gemini App to Rival ChatGPT and Claude
Google has launched a comprehensive redesign of its Gemini app, transitioning the platform from a standard chatbot into a multifunctional AI hub. Announced at the annual Google I/O event on Tuesday, the update introduces advanced agent capabilities and a new aesthetic aimed at directly challenging competitors like ChatGPT and Claude.
The company confirmed that the Gemini app currently serves over 900 million monthly users across more than 230 countries and 70 languages. To maintain this momentum, Google has rebuilt the mobile experience from the ground up.

A New Interface and Daily Briefing
The app now features a design language dubbed “Neural Expressive,” which introduces vibrant colors, fluid animations, updated typography, and haptic feedback. Moving away from traditional blocks of text, the interface now prioritizes key information at the top, allowing users to scroll for deeper details, images, and timelines.
Additionally, Google introduced “Daily Brief,” a feature that synthesizes data from a user’s inbox, calendar, and tasks. It does not merely summarize information; it organizes and prioritizes tasks, offering suggestions for the day ahead. This feature is rolling out to Google AI subscribers in the United States starting today.

Gemini Spark and Gemini Omni
The update also introduces “Gemini Spark,” an AI agent designed to function as a 24/7 partner that operates in the background. Unlike a static chatbot, Spark is built to execute workflows on behalf of the user, even when the device is locked. It is currently in testing and is expected to reach Google AI Ultra subscribers next week.
Furthermore, Google unveiled “Gemini Omni,” a new AI video model. This tool combines Gemini with generative media models to create grounded video outputs. Users can upload various media formats—including audio, images, and video—to generate consistent, high-quality content. The model is being integrated into Google Flow and YouTube Shorts for AI subscribers, signaling Google’s broader ambition to dominate the multimodal AI sector.
