Humanoid robot startup Apptronik has now raised $935M at a $5B+ valuation

Apptronik, the Austin-based robotics firm born from the University of Texas, has officially pushed its total Series A funding to $935 million. This massive capital injection arrives as the company continues to develop its flagship humanoid robot, Apollo, cementing a post-money valuation of approximately $5.3 billion.

Although the company opted to categorize this influx as an extension of its Series A rather than a formal Series B, the scale of the investment reflects the high-stakes competition within the embodied AI sector. According to internal sources, the startup was not actively seeking a new round but chose to leverage significant inbound interest from both existing and new backers.

The capital structure of this extended round includes contributions from several high-profile supporters:

  • Google
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • B Capital

Unlike standard funding extensions that maintain previous pricing, Apptronik confirmed that investors paid progressively higher share prices throughout the process. This represents a significant jump from the company’s initial Series A valuation of roughly $1.75 billion, a figure previously tracked by PitchBook.

Scaling Embodied AI Technology

The rapid accumulation of capital highlights the intense industry focus on robots that can reason and interact with their surroundings. By partnering with organizations such as Google DeepMind, GXO, and Mercedes-Benz, Apptronik is positioning its technology to handle complex physical labor. These tasks include:

  • Unloading logistics trailers
  • Managing warehouse inventory
  • Operating and tending to industrial machinery

While the firm is still in the earlier stages of its commercial journey, its engineering roots run deep. The team’s expertise traces back to 2013, long before the company’s formal 2016 launch. During that period, core members working at the University of Texas Human Centered Robotics Lab participated in the NASA-DARPA Robotics Challenge, contributing to the development of the Valkyrie robot. That foundational relationship with NASA has persisted as the company transitioned to building its own platform, Apollo.

The move places Apptronik in a tight race with competitors like Figure AI, which has also attracted massive institutional support to advance the deployment of bipedal robots in real-world environments.
