YouTube TV Multiview Upgrade Lets You Mix Custom Channels

YouTube TV is evolving its popular multiview feature, shifting from curated selections to a fully personalized experience. Users will soon have the ability to curate their own multi-channel layouts, breaking away from the platform’s previous reliance on pre-selected groupings.

YouTube TV’s multiview is getting a huge upgrade, letting viewers mix and match channels

The update was confirmed by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan in his annual letter released this Wednesday. This move marks a significant departure from the initial 2023 rollout, which restricted viewers to specific, platform-curated streams for sports, and later, limited selections of news and weather channels like CNN, MSNBC, HGTV, and Food Network.

Building Your Custom Layout

The upcoming iteration aims to cater to households with varied tastes, allowing users to blend genres—such as mixing sports with news or entertainment—on a single screen. While the platform previously tested unrestricted channel selection with a limited user group, this broader rollout will soon make the feature available to a wider audience.

To access the current multiview functionality, users can follow these steps:

  • Press the down button on your remote control.
  • Locate and select the “Multiview” icon or the “Watch Multiview” option.
  • Choose up to three additional live channels to populate your screen.

New Subscription Flexibility

Beyond the interface update, Mohan also outlined plans for genre-specific channel packages. These bundles are intended to offer subscribers greater control over their monthly costs by allowing them to pay only for the content categories they actually watch, such as dedicated packages for sports, family programming, or news.

Specific details regarding the pricing and official launch dates for these new subscription tiers remain undisclosed. The company is expected to provide further information in the near future as it prepares for the official release.
