Google Expands Gemini AI Integration to Chrome in APAC

Google is significantly expanding the reach of its AI-powered features, officially rolling out Gemini integration within the Chrome browser to several key markets across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The update, announced on Monday, brings generative AI capabilities to users in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam.

Google rolls out Gemini in Chrome in APAC countries

The rollout covers both desktop and iOS platforms for most of these countries, with the notable exception of Japan, where the feature is currently limited to desktop environments. This move follows a steady expansion of Gemini’s presence in Chrome, which first launched in the U.S. in January before reaching India, Canada, and New Zealand in March.

Advanced Browser Assistance

Chrome users in these newly supported regions gain access to a sidebar-based assistant designed to streamline web-based productivity. This interface allows users to perform various tasks without leaving the browser, including:

  • Drafting and sending emails directly via Gmail.
  • Scheduling appointments through Google Calendar.
  • Retrieving location information using Google Maps.
  • Querying information across multiple open tabs.

Through “Personal Intelligence” features, the assistant can pull data from connected services like Gmail and Google Photos to provide tailored responses. Additionally, the sidebar now features tools for creative image manipulation, powered by the Nano Banana 2 model.

The Road Ahead for Agentic AI

While the standard Gemini integration is now becoming a global staple for Chrome, Google is maintaining a more restricted rollout for its advanced “agentic” capabilities. This technology, which allows the AI to actively control browser windows to execute complex tasks on behalf of the user, remains in the testing phase.

Currently, these autonomous browsing features are reserved exclusively for subscribers of the AI Pro and AI Ultra paid plans located in the United States. Google continues to refine these tools as it pushes to make the browser a more proactive partner in user workflows.
