Meta AI App Surges to Top 5 on App Store After Muse Spark

The Meta AI application experienced a sharp rise in popularity this week, climbing to the number five spot on the U.S. App Store by Thursday. This growth follows the Wednesday release of Muse Spark, the company’s latest artificial intelligence model and the first major launch under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, head of Meta’s Superintelligence Labs.

Market intelligence firm Appfigures reported that the app jumped from the 57th position just before the debut of Muse Spark to its current top-five standing. The surge represents a significant influx of new users engaging with the platform.

Download Data and Market Reach

Data from Sensor Tower highlights the immediate impact of the release on April 8, 2026, showing an 87% day-over-day increase in U.S. iOS downloads for Meta AI. While Android adoption saw a more modest 3% rise, web traffic saw explosive growth. Daily U.S. web visitors to Meta AI climbed more than 450% on the day of the launch, hitting an all-time high that exceeded the previous 30-day average by over 570%.

Globally, the app has reached 60.5 million total installations across the App Store and Google Play, with 25 million of those occurring in 2026 alone. According to Appfigures, the top markets for the app include:

  • India
  • United States
  • Brazil
  • Pakistan
  • Mexico

Despite this momentum, Meta AI still trails behind industry leaders such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini in app store rankings.

Capabilities of Muse Spark

Meta describes Muse Spark as a substantial upgrade over its previous Llama 4 iterations. Designed to compete directly with rival AI labs, the model supports multimodal inputs—including voice, text, and imagery. It is engineered to assist with complex reasoning in mathematics and science, provide health information, and support visual coding tasks, such as generating websites or mini-games.

A key feature of the new system is the ability to launch multiple subagents to manage user queries. While currently available on mobile and web, Meta intends to integrate the model into its broader ecosystem, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and its AI glasses, in the coming weeks.

The company has invested heavily to reach this point, committing billions to talent acquisition and a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI. As Alexandr Wang noted in a post on X, the platform is currently in a phase of active growth as it continues to roll out these enhanced features to users.
