Xbox Cloud Gaming Arrives on Meta Quest Headsets
Microsoft has officially expanded its Xbox Cloud Gaming service to Meta Quest virtual reality headsets. The launch fulfills a promise made during the debut of the Quest 3 hardware earlier this year, bringing a library of cloud-based titles to Meta’s ecosystem.

The application is currently labeled as a beta and is compatible with the following devices:
- Meta Quest 2
- Meta Quest 3
- Meta Quest Pro
To access the service, users must maintain an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and possess a compatible game controller. While the original Meta Quest headset is not supported, those with the newer models can now stream games directly to a virtual display.
The Virtual Gaming Experience
Rather than providing a fully immersive VR conversion of traditional titles, the app projects games onto a large 2D virtual screen. Users can customize this interface by choosing from four different screen sizes. Additionally, the viewing environment can be toggled between a custom Xbox-themed virtual space or integrated into the user’s physical surroundings using the passthrough capabilities of the Quest 3 and Quest Pro.
Performance remains highly dependent on the user’s local network stability. Early testing indicates that once a controller—such as an Xbox Elite 2 or 8bitdo Pro Gamepad—is successfully paired and recognized by the headset, the streaming experience provides smooth, stable gameplay for titles like Grand Theft Auto V.
This integration marks a significant expansion for Microsoft’s cloud gaming initiative, offering players a portable, high-quality display option for their existing Game Pass library without the need for a physical console.
