Minecraft Dungeons & Dragons DLC: Dice Rolls and Spells
Minecraft has officially expanded its blocky universe with a new DLC centered on the iconic world of Dungeons & Dragons. Developed in collaboration with Everbloom Games and D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast, this expansion transports players into the Forgotten Realms, offering a fresh take on the classic sandbox experience.
While the DLC operates within the familiar framework of Minecraft, it introduces several tabletop-inspired mechanics designed to bridge the gap between the two franchises. Players can now engage in traditional D&D activities such as rolling d20s, managing character stats, and conversing with non-player characters (NPCs) through an updated interface that includes a dedicated quest log and inventory system.
Gameplay Features and Classes
The expansion emphasizes character progression, allowing players to level up and select from four distinct archetypes: barbarian, rogue, wizard, or paladin. These classes unlock specific abilities, including the ability to cast iconic magic spells like fireball within the Minecraft environment.
Exploration takes center stage as users travel through legendary locations from the D&D lore, including:
- Candlekeep
- Icewind Dale
- Revel’s End
Combat has also received a significant update, introducing a roster of classic monsters. Players will face off against beholders, mind flayers, mimics, displacer beasts, goblins, and dragons.
Additional Content and Availability
To celebrate the launch, Wizards of the Coast is providing supplementary material to bridge the crossover. This includes a free adventure titled Lightning Keep, tailored for third-level characters tasked with rescuing refugees from a dragon. Furthermore, a new Monstrous Compendium has been released, detailing the stats of Minecraft mobs—such as the dexterity of an ender dragon or the defense capabilities of a creeper—within the D&D rule set.
The Dungeons & Dragons DLC is currently available for purchase via the Minecraft Marketplace for 1,510 Minecoins, which equates to approximately $8 USD.
