CONTEUDO:
Walmart is making a strategic return to Roblox with the launch of “Walmart Discovered,” a virtual hub designed to highlight community-created items and indie experiences. This new venture marks a pivot from the retailer’s previous approach, moving away from direct brand-centric games toward a platform-native model.

The launch of “Walmart Discovered” follows the quiet retirement of “Walmart Land” and “Universe of Play,” two branded worlds that previously allowed users to collect virtual merchandise and play mini-games. Those earlier experiences faced scrutiny from consumer advocacy groups, who raised concerns regarding potential stealth marketing directed at younger audiences and adherence to COPPA guidelines.
A Pivot Toward Community Curation
While the retailer faced allegations from advocacy groups regarding compliance with Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) standards, Walmart maintains that the closure of its initial games was simply part of a planned lifecycle. According to company spokesperson Lea Ciskowski, the goal has always been to iterate on the platform.
“Taking down some experiences to work on new ones is part of that innovation,” Ciskowski stated. “Our learnings from both experiences allowed us to create an offering that was even more endemic to the platform with Walmart Discovered.”
How ‘Walmart Discovered’ Works
Unlike the previous iterations, which functioned as interactive advertisements for physical goods, the new hub focuses on the Roblox ecosystem itself. The experience, which debuted this Tuesday, offers several key features for users aged 13 and older:
- Creator Spotlight: The space highlights more than 300 Roblox community creators, ranging from virtual fashion designers to developers of indie experiences.
- Nomination System: Over the next four months, players can vote on their favorite virtual items and games within the hub.
- Thematic Departments: The world is categorized into sectors such as Beauty, Racing, Pets, Sports, and Entertainment.
- Personalization: Players can utilize “My Department” to save items for later or access a virtual shopping cart to acquire items using Robux.
Walmart reports that this design was heavily influenced by user feedback, specifically addressing the community’s desire for a more streamlined way to navigate the vast library of virtual content available on Roblox. The experience is widely accessible, supporting play across PC, Mac, mobile devices (iOS/Android), Amazon devices, Xbox consoles, and VR hardware like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
