Meta is aggressively expanding its subscription strategy, officially rolling out tiered consumer plans across its primary social platforms. The company now offers paid monthly memberships for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, while simultaneously launching testing phases for advanced professional and AI-centric features.

The move represents a significant shift toward diversifying revenue beyond traditional advertising. By introducing these tiers, Meta aims to extract additional value from its massive user base, particularly as growth in its core apps reaches global saturation.

Consumer “Plus” Plans

The new subscription tiers are customized for each application, focusing on personalization and user experience. Pricing and key features include:

  • Instagram Plus ($3.99/mo) and Facebook Plus ($3.99/mo): Focused on social expression, offering profile customization, custom fonts, additional profile pins, and Super Heart animated reactions.
  • WhatsApp Plus ($2.99/mo): Prioritizes messaging personalization with app themes, custom ringtones, premium stickers, and expanded chat pinning.

For Instagram specifically, subscribers gain tools like unlimited audience lists for Stories, the ability to view aggregate rewatch counts, and options to post content to profiles without appearing in followers’ main feeds. Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, confirmed in an announcement that these features are only the beginning, with more updates expected soon.

Crucially, these new “Plus” offerings do not replace Meta Verified. The verification service remains a separate product focused on account security, impersonation protection, and dedicated support.

Expansion into AI and Professional Tools

Looking ahead, Meta is consolidating its future subscription services under the “Meta One” brand. This includes specialized tiers for artificial intelligence and professional power users.

The AI-focused tiers, starting next month in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia, include:

  • Meta One Plus ($7.99/mo): Standard AI access.
  • Meta One Premium ($19.99/mo): Offers higher compute capacity, enabling “thinking mode” for complex tasks and enhanced image/video generation capabilities.

For businesses and creators, Meta is testing two professional tiers in markets including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh:

  • Meta One Essential ($14.99/mo): Includes the Verified badge, impersonation protection, and an enhanced link-sharing tool.
  • Meta One Advanced ($49.99/mo): Adds premium features such as feed prioritization, increased search visibility, automated “follow” invitations, and deeper competitive analytics for Instagram and Facebook.

These advanced tiers also provide professional tools for account management, including delegated access for moderators and automated copyright protection alerts for Reels.
