Depop Adds Mood-Board Tool to Boost Fashion Discovery

Resale platform Depop has officially rolled out a new creative feature dubbed “Outfits.” The tool functions as a digital mood board, enabling users to assemble curated looks from items available on the app and share them with their followers.

The feature aims to simplify the styling process, helping both buyers and sellers visualize how different pieces can be combined. By tapping the scissors icon on any product page, users can access an editing interface to adjust image placement, resize items, and customize backgrounds using provided templates.

Enhancing Discoverability and Sales

Each item included in a collage remains directly shoppable. To ensure a seamless shopping experience, the app automatically suggests similar alternatives if a specific piece is sold out. This functionality serves as a strategic move to capture the attention of Gen Z users, who frequently turn to platforms like Pinterest to curate fashion inspiration.

Key features of the Outfits update include:

  • Shoppable Integration: Direct links to purchase items featured in the collages.
  • Dynamic Inventory Management: Automatic suggestions for replacement items if original stock is unavailable.
  • Social Versatility: Ability to export static images for sharing on platforms like Instagram and Pinterest.

Market Performance

The introduction of this tool coincides with a period of strong financial growth for the platform. According to the Q2 2025 earnings report from parent company Etsy, Depop saw its Gross Merchandise Sales (GMS) climb by 34.7% year-over-year on a currency-neutral basis. The company is currently tracking toward a $1 billion GMS run rate.

For context, the resale sector remains highly competitive. Industry rival Mercari, for comparison, reported a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of $728 million during the final quarter of 2024.
