X Launches Paid Partnership Labels for Creators
X is rolling out a dedicated “Paid Partnership” label, providing creators with an integrated tool to identify sponsored content. The update marks a shift away from the manual use of hashtags, aiming to bolster transparency while helping users adhere to federal advertising standards.

Streamlining Ad Disclosures
Previously, creators operating on the platform were forced to rely on informal methods, such as including #ad or #paidpartnership within their posts. The new functionality introduces a “content disclose” toggle, which users can activate to attach the official label directly beneath their content.
According to Nikita Bier, head of product at X, the feature is designed to maintain the platform’s integrity. “While we want to encourage people to build their businesses on X, undisclosed promotions hurt the integrity of the product and lead people to distrust the content they read on X,” Bier stated in an announcement regarding the update. The tool also offers flexibility, as the label can be applied retroactively if a creator forgets to enable it before publishing.
Alignment with Industry Standards
The move brings X closer to the compliance framework established by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Since 2017, the FTC has mandated that influencers provide clear and conspicuous disclosures for sponsored posts. Platforms like Instagram have long utilized similar native features to ensure creators remain compliant with these regulatory requirements.
Today we're announcing Paid Partnership labels on posts. X's core value is providing on authentic pulse on humanity.

Broader Efforts to Curb Platform Spam
The introduction of disclosure labels is part of a larger push by the platform to manage content quality. Recent changes include limitations on the X API, which now restricts programmatic replies to instances where the original author has either mentioned or quoted the replying user. This policy is specifically intended to mitigate the influence of AI-generated spam.
By curbing automated responses, the platform aims to prevent deceptive practices, such as fake accounts posing as satisfied customers to inflate the perceived popularity of sponsored posts. As X continues to compete with platforms like YouTube and Instagram for creator attention, these updates serve as an attempt to professionalize the user experience and protect the platform’s real-time information ecosystem.
