Google Brings Gemini AI to Google TV Devices
Google is expanding the reach of its flagship artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini, by bringing the technology directly to the living room. The company announced on Monday that Gemini is launching for Google TV, enabling users to interact with their television sets using natural language conversations.
This integration targets a massive install base, with plans to make the AI available across more than 300 million active Google TV and Android TV OS-powered devices. The rollout begins immediately with the TCL QM9K series.
New Capabilities for TV Navigation
Beyond standard content discovery, Gemini aims to simplify how viewers interact with their entertainment libraries. Use cases highlighted by the company include:
- Resolving viewing disputes by suggesting titles that appeal to multiple users.
- Recapping previous seasons of television shows.
- Locating specific movies or series when the title has been forgotten.
- Providing critical reviews to help users decide if a title is worth their time.
Versatility Beyond Entertainment
Google emphasizes that Gemini on TV is not limited to media queries. Much like the chatbot experience on smartphones, users can leverage the assistant for tasks such as planning vacations, brainstorming creative projects, or assisting children with their homework.
The company confirmed that the introduction of Gemini will not replace existing features. Standard commands previously handled by the non-AI Google Assistant will remain fully functional.
Rollout Schedule
Following the initial launch on TCL QM9K units, the AI features will arrive on additional devices later this year, including:
- Google TV Streamer
- Walmart onn 4K Pro
- 2025 Hisense models (U7, U8, and UX)
- 2025 TCL models (QM7K, QM8K, and X11K)
Google plans to introduce additional functionality to the platform as the integration matures.
