Google Gemini Gains Android Automation for Daily Tasks
Google has unveiled a significant expansion of its Gemini AI capabilities on Android, introducing automated task management for specific daily activities. The update allows the AI to handle multi-step processes—such as ordering food or booking rides—directly through the Gemini app, marking a shift toward more autonomous mobile assistance.
Currently in beta, this automation feature is restricted to users in the United States and Korea. At launch, the functionality supports a curated list of service providers, including:
- Food and Grocery: DoorDash, Grubhub, Instacart, McDonald’s, and Starbucks.
- Rideshare: Uber and Uber Eats.
- Regional Support: Kaemin and Kakao T (available exclusively in Korea).

Security and Hardware Limitations
Initial access to these automation tools is reserved for specific hardware, namely the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S26 series. To mitigate risks associated with automated AI actions, Google has implemented a sandbox-style environment. The AI operates within a secure, virtual window that limits access to specific applications, preventing the model from interacting with sensitive device data.
Users maintain full control over the process; actions require an explicit command to begin, and the user can monitor progress in real-time, with the ability to halt the operation if errors occur.
Expanded Security and Search Features
Beyond automation, Google is bolstering device security. The company is extending its AI-powered scam detection for phone calls to the Samsung Galaxy S26 series in the U.S. Furthermore, on-device Gemini models will now identify scam text messages on Pixel 10 devices, with plans to roll this out to the Galaxy S26 series shortly.

The update also enhances Circle to Search. Users can now identify and search for multiple items on their screen simultaneously, rather than being limited to a single object. This allows for broader contextual searches, such as analyzing an entire outfit or exploring multiple related topics presented on a display.
