Spotify Launches Podcast Clips for Easy Social Sharing
Spotify is rolling out a new tool designed to simplify how listeners capture and distribute specific highlights from podcasts. Starting Wednesday, the platform is introducing a “Podcast clips” feature, providing a more streamlined way to extract and share audio segments across social media and messaging platforms.

How the Clipping Tool Works
To use the new functionality, listeners can tap a scissors icon located within the “Now Playing” interface. This tool allows users to isolate a chosen segment, trim the audio to their preferred length, and preview the clip before finalizing it.
Once a segment is created, it can be shared via the standard Spotify sharing menu. The platform has updated this interface to support several destination options, including:
- Links to the full podcast episode.
- Direct jumps to specific chapters or timestamps.
- The newly created audio clip for broader distribution.
All saved clips are stored within the user’s Spotify Library. This allows for future access or the ability to organize these segments into dedicated podcast playlists.
Market Context and User Adoption
The timing of this launch aligns with a shift in media consumption, where high-profile interviews with tech and AI executives are increasingly occurring on podcast platforms rather than through traditional media outlets. As these long-form conversations become primary sources for breaking news, the ability to isolate key moments is expected to help users digest and circulate information more efficiently.
Spotify reports that listeners are already engaging with segmented content. Since the introduction of “Chapters” earlier this year, users have been saving and adding these sections to playlists at a rate of over 2 million times per month. By allowing users to highlight specific parts of an episode, Spotify aims to drive further interest in full shows, serving as both a discovery tool and a marketing mechanism.
Availability
The feature is currently being released globally for both free and Premium users on mobile devices. Spotify indicated that the tool will be expanded to cover an increasing number of shows over time. You can find more details on the official Spotify announcement.
