Threads Adds Direct Instagram Story Sharing Feature
Meta is streamlining content distribution across its social ecosystem, introducing a new feature that allows users to share Threads posts directly to their Instagram Stories. The update, announced this Thursday, removes the friction of switching between apps by providing a native preview of the Story layout within the Threads interface.
This integration marks a shift in how the platform manages its content portability. While users previously had access to tools for sharing posts to Instagram Feeds or via direct messages, the new capability offers a more seamless workflow for those looking to highlight text-based updates within their Stories.

Leveraging the Instagram Network
Meta’s strategy to bolster Threads has consistently relied on the existing infrastructure of its parent platforms. Since its July 2023 debut, Threads utilized Instagram’s authentication system to allow for rapid user onboarding, enabling people to carry over their bios, profile photos, and follower lists instantly.
The company has continued this trend by:
- Displaying high-engagement Threads posts directly on Facebook.
- Integrating Threads post carousels into the Instagram user experience.
- Facilitating cross-posting capabilities between Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.
Platform Growth Metrics
The emphasis on cross-platform synergy appears to be yielding measurable results. Market intelligence firm Similarweb reported that, as of last month, Threads surpassed Elon Musk’s X in daily mobile usage, although X maintains a stronger presence on web browsers.
User adoption figures reflect this upward trajectory. Threads expanded its monthly active user base from 200 million in August 2024 to 400 million by August 2025. Furthermore, Meta confirmed in October that the platform had successfully reached 150 million daily active users.
