Discord Nitro Rewards Adds Xbox Game Pass for Subscribers

Discord is expanding the value proposition of its premium subscription service with the launch of “Nitro Rewards.” The new initiative grants users on the standard Nitro plan exclusive access to offers from various gaming and lifestyle brands at no additional cost.

Discord launches Nitro Rewards, giving subscribers access to the base tier of Xbox Game Pass for no extra cost

The program is rolling out specifically for Discord Nitro subscribers, who pay $9.99 per month. Notably, the entry-level “Nitro Basic” tier, priced at $2.99 monthly, does not qualify for these new perks.

Expanded Benefits for Premium Users

The headline feature at launch is access to the base tier of Xbox Game Pass. This integration allows subscribers to play a library of over 50 titles, including Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, and DayZ. Additionally, the benefit includes 10 hours of cloud gaming, enabling users to stream titles across multiple devices.

Beyond software, Discord is partnering with hardware manufacturers to offer direct discounts. Subscribers can now access savings ranging from 15% to 30% on rotating items from brands such as:

  • Logitech G
  • SteelSeries
  • KontrolFreek

Retention and Business Strategy

Stanislav Vishnevskiy, co-founder and CTO of Discord, views this expansion as a way to reward the platform’s most dedicated users while bolstering the subscription model. “Nitro is the biggest contributor to Discord revenue, and it’s been growing healthily year on year,” Vishnevskiy noted. “This is about doubling down on that and providing you more value again.”

Historically, Discord has maintained a strategy where the platform remains fully functional for free users, reserving Nitro for quality-of-life upgrades like HD streaming, larger file uploads (up to 500 MB), and profile customization. By adding tangible external rewards, the company aims to improve subscriber retention.

Platform Evolution and Safety Challenges

While Discord originated as a niche tool for gamers, it has evolved into a massive community hub with over 90 million daily active users. Its utility now spans from decentralized crypto projects to local community organizing and tech-focused product testing.

However, this scale has invited significant regulatory scrutiny. The company is currently navigating legal challenges regarding child safety, prompting leadership to develop and implement new age-verification protocols to address concerns about platform exposure to harmful content.
