Nintendo Raises Switch Prices Citing Market Conditions
Nintendo confirmed a forthcoming price hike across its Switch hardware lineup and various accessories, effective August 3. The company attributed the decision to evolving “market conditions,” a phrase widely interpreted as a response to the latest round of reciprocal tariffs announced by President Donald Trump.
The adjustments will impact several key products within the gaming ecosystem. While the manufacturer has not yet disclosed specific new price points, the current retail landscape features the original Nintendo Switch at $299.99 and the OLED model at $349.99.

According to the official announcement, the price changes apply to the following items:
- Nintendo Switch (OLED Model)
- Standard Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Select Nintendo Switch accessories
- Certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories

The Impact of Trade Policy
The timing of this announcement follows recent shifts in international trade policy. Although Nintendo previously relocated the majority of its manufacturing operations from China to Vietnam to avoid tariffs, the administration’s latest reciprocal tariff measures now encompass Vietnam, directly impacting the company’s supply chain strategy.
In its fiscal first-quarter earnings report released on Friday, Nintendo noted that the Switch 2 has reached 5.82 million units sold since its June 5 launch. Despite the upcoming hardware increases, the company stated that pricing for the Switch 2 system itself, along with physical and digital game titles and Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain steady for the moment.
However, the company cautioned that further adjustments could be on the horizon. “Please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future,” the statement read, leaving the door open for potential changes to the $450 Switch 2 console price point in subsequent quarters.
