Google Invests in Indian Gaming Platform STAN
Google has officially joined the latest equity funding round for STAN, an Indian social gaming platform designed to bridge the gap between gamers, content creators, and publishers. The investment, totaling $8.5 million, was executed through Google’s AI Futures Fund, a vehicle launched in May specifically to support startups integrating the tech giant’s AI tools into their infrastructure.
The funding round attracted significant attention from international industry leaders, including Japan’s Bandai Namco Entertainment, Square Enix, and Reazon Holdings. Other participants included Aptos Labs and King River Capital, alongside existing investors such as General Catalyst, T-Accelerate Capital, and GFR Fund. Following this injection of capital, STAN’s total equity funding has reached approximately $15 million.

Headquartered in Singapore, STAN differentiates itself from competitors like Discord by implementing a monetization model rooted in user rewards. The platform allows users to earn “Gems”—an in-app currency—by participating in popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India, Free Fire Max, Minecraft, and Call of Duty. These tokens can then be redeemed for vouchers on platforms including Amazon, PhonePe, and Flipkart.
Parth Chadha, co-founder and CEO of STAN, describes the application as a central hub for social gaming interaction. “STAN is the hangout place for gamers. It’s a place where gamers come and make friends, play with each other, talk to each other, sort of a fusion of social and gaming,” Chadha said.
Driving Growth and Monetization
The platform has seen significant traction, reporting over 25 million total downloads across the Play Store and App Store, with approximately 5.5 million monthly active users. Key growth drivers include:
- User-Generated Content: The shift to allow any user to go live has boosted engagement and download rates.
- Publisher Partnerships: Over 100 game studios and developers, including Krafton, Garena, and Roblox, have joined the platform in the last two quarters to connect with their player base.
- Reward Ecosystem: Beyond gameplay, users earn currency through referrals, daily rewards, and interactive features like a “spin-to-win” wheel.
AI Integration and Future Roadmap
STAN intends to utilize the new funding to deepen its reliance on artificial intelligence. Currently, 70% to 80% of moderation is automated, and the company aims to increase this efficiency while providing new AI-powered toolkits for creators. These tools will facilitate the production of memes, avatars, and advanced chat filtering.
While the app is currently restricted to India, the startup reports that 5% to 6% of its engagement already originates from international users. STAN plans to leverage its current momentum to expand into the Indian subcontinent, followed by strategic entries into Southeast Asia and Latin America. Though the company achieved brief profitability in the past, it is currently prioritizing scale, with a target to reach sustainable profitability by 2027.
