Apple Introduces Siri-Powered Bill Splitting for iPhone

Navigating the awkwardness of group dining payments is becoming simpler for iPhone users. During the WWDC 2026 keynote, Apple introduced a new capability for the Camera app that uses Siri to identify items on a receipt, streamlining the process of dividing tabs among friends.

The feature functions by allowing users to point their iPhone camera at a physical receipt. Once the document is scanned, Siri makes individual items selectable. Users can then designate specific items to certain people and trigger separate Apple Cash payment requests based on those selections.

Sebastien Marineau-Mes, Apple’s VP of Software, explained the utility during the presentation: “If you’re grabbing a bite with friends and point your iPhone at the bill, then [you can] select what you ordered to split the tab with Apple Cash.”

Integration and Convenience

While third-party applications have historically offered bill-splitting tools, Apple’s native integration aims to remove the friction of requiring users to download and manage additional software. By embedding the functionality directly into the iOS camera interface and linking it to Apple Cash and iMessage, the process mirrors the existing user experience of the Apple ecosystem.

Beyond financial management, Apple is expanding the intelligence of the Camera app. The company also announced a similar Siri-driven feature that provides estimated nutritional data when the camera is pointed at food, further broadening the practical applications of its visual intelligence tools.
