Google TV Gains Gemini AI Tools and YouTube Shorts Feed
Google is bringing generative AI directly to the living room, announcing a suite of new features for Google TV that integrate Gemini capabilities and a dedicated feed for short-form video content. The update aims to turn the television into a more interactive creative hub.
The rollout begins with Gemini-enabled TCL televisions in the United States, with plans to expand compatibility to additional devices in the future. At the core of this integration is a new “Create” button within the Gemini tab, granting users direct access to two primary generative models: Nano Banana and Veo.

AI-Powered Creativity and Photo Management
The Nano Banana tool focuses on image manipulation, allowing users to modify existing photos through voice commands. Whether swapping clothing, altering backgrounds, or generating entirely new visual scenes, the feature is designed for collaborative, family-oriented entertainment. Complementing this, the Veo model allows for the creation of video clips from scratch or the animation of static images based on descriptive text prompts.
Google is also revamping the Google Photos experience on the platform. Key updates include:
- Gemini Search: Enables users to locate specific memories—such as birthdays or vacations—using natural language queries rather than manual scrolling.
- Remix Feature: Provides artistic filters, such as oil painting or watercolor styles, to transform stored images.
- Dynamic Slideshows: Introduces new animated frames and color treatments, which can be enabled via the screensaver settings.
Short-Form Video Integration
Beyond generative AI, Google is shifting the home screen layout to accommodate the popularity of short-form content. A new row labeled “Short videos for you” will soon feature content sourced from YouTube Shorts.

While the focus is currently on YouTube, the structure of the interface suggests a potential for expansion to other platforms in the future. This move follows other developments in the smart TV ecosystem, including the earlier launch of Instagram’s TV application on Google TV devices in the U.S. market.
