CONTEUDO:
Deezer has unveiled a new web-based tool capable of scanning playlists across multiple streaming services to flag AI-generated tracks. The move arrives as the music industry grapples with the rapid proliferation of synthetic audio, which now accounts for a significant portion of daily uploads.

The free detector, announced this Thursday, supports 27 languages and is compatible with 20 major streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music. By connecting their accounts to the platform, users can analyze their personal playlists to uncover potential AI-driven content.
Addressing the AI music influx
The initiative highlights Deezer’s aggressive stance against synthetic media, distinguishing its strategy from competitors like Spotify and Apple Music, which have largely focused on tagging systems. Beyond scanning user playlists, Deezer actively excludes AI tracks from its editorial recommendations and has begun offering its proprietary detection technology to rival platforms.
“By detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming. No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use,” said CEO Alexis Lanternier.
The scale of synthetic content
The deployment of this tool follows alarming internal data from Deezer regarding the volume of synthetic audio. The company reports that 44% of all new music uploaded to its service is AI-generated, amounting to approximately 75,000 new tracks every single day—totaling over two million per month.
Despite this massive influx, listener engagement remains minimal. According to the company, AI-generated content accounts for only 1% to 3% of total streams. Furthermore, Deezer notes that roughly 85% of those streams are identified as fraudulent, leading the platform to demonetize the content accordingly.
Future policy shifts
As the company monitors the impact of these tools, it is evaluating more stringent measures. Deezer is considering potential updates to its supplier policies or the outright removal of AI content, a path similar to the one taken by Bandcamp, which implemented a ban on AI-generated music earlier this year.
Users interested in verifying their own libraries can access the AI music detector website to import playlists and scan for synthetic tracks. The platform also provides features for users to share their findings after the analysis is complete.
