Google Gemini adds Nano Banana for personalized image AI
Google announced on Thursday a significant upgrade to Gemini’s Personal Intelligence suite, introducing Nano Banana-powered image generation. This new capability allows the AI to create visuals tailored to a user’s specific interests and life data without requiring complex, manual prompts.
By leveraging existing connections to personal accounts, such as Gmail and Google Photos, Gemini can now infer user preferences automatically. Instead of detailing hobbies like tennis or music in a prompt, users can simply request a concept—such as “design my dream home”—and the AI will synthesize a result based on their stored digital history.

Contextual Awareness in Media Generation
The update extends beyond general interests, utilizing labels within Google Photos to identify specific subjects. By recognizing terms such as “Family,” the system can process requests like “Generate an image of my family and me doing our favorite activity.”
To maintain transparency, Google has included a “sources” button, allowing users to verify how the AI derived the context used to construct the image. Users also have the option to provide direct reference photos by clicking the “+” icon if they wish to guide the output further.

Availability and Rollout
- Rollout Timeline: The feature will be accessible to U.S. subscribers of Plus, Pro, and Ultra tiers in the coming days.
- Future Expansion: Google intends to integrate this into Gemini for Chrome desktop and broaden access to more users soon.
- System Limitations: The company notes that context errors are possible and encourages users to provide feedback to improve the model’s accuracy.
Personal Intelligence was first introduced earlier this year, reaching all U.S. users by March. The company has recently expanded the feature’s reach to include international markets such as India and Japan.
