Match Group Eliminates COO Role as Hesam Hosseini Departs
Match Group is eliminating its chief operating officer position, marking the departure of Hesam Hosseini after an 18-year career with the dating app conglomerate. The structural change arrives as the company grapples with widespread user fatigue and a noticeable decline in popularity among Gen Z demographics.

Hosseini had served as COO since April 1, 2025, a role he held concurrently with his position as CEO of Evergreen & Emerging Brands. His exit follows a broader internal reorganization that included the departure of company President Gary Swidler during a round of layoffs aimed at achieving $100 million in annual savings.
Operational Shifts Under Spencer Rascoff
The decision to dissolve the COO role was finalized under the leadership of CEO Spencer Rascoff, the former Zillow co-founder who joined the firm last February. According to sources familiar with the transition, Rascoff and Hosseini had been evaluating the necessity of the COO position for the company’s current operational phase for some time.
Hosseini’s employment agreement, which provided a $635,000 base salary plus bonuses, was slated for automatic renewal on April 1, 2026. However, the company opted to reassess the role’s requirements, leading to Hosseini’s decision to step down at the end of the term.
Reflecting on his tenure via LinkedIn, Hosseini stated he had “a front row seat to seeing our category grow into the number one way people find meaningful connection.” Rascoff publicly acknowledged the contribution, writing: “You helped take online dating from the margins to the mainstream and built teams and brands that will have a lasting impact.”
Market Challenges and Future Outlook
Despite reporting an earnings beat in the first quarter with $878 million in revenue—surpassing the anticipated $871 million—Match Group faces a difficult road ahead. The company’s revenue forecast for the coming year, ranging between $3.41 billion and $3.54 billion, fell short of Wall Street’s $3.59 billion estimate.
To combat the cooling demand, the firm is pivoting toward new initiatives:
- AI Integration: Plans are underway to embed more AI-driven features into the Tinder platform.
- Product Innovation: Tinder is scheduled to host its first-ever product event this month.
- Strategic Pivot: Management is attempting to address the trend of younger users abandoning digital apps in favor of offline social experiences.
