Sony acquires premium gaming headset maker Audeze
Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially moved to acquire Audeze, an Orange County-based company renowned for its high-fidelity audio equipment. The deal integrates the boutique manufacturer’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, aiming to bolster the audio innovation already present in the brand’s current hardware lineup.

Audeze has built a reputation for producing premium headphones that frequently reach four-figure price points, catering primarily to audiophiles, music producers, and enthusiasts within the gaming community. Despite the acquisition, the company will maintain its operations in California and continue to function as a distinct brand.
Integration into the PlayStation Ecosystem
Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), stated that the move underscores a commitment to advancing the audio standards for PlayStation users. “We’re excited to bring Audeze’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset,” said Nishino.
For Audeze, the partnership represents a strategic shift toward broader market reach. Sankar Thiagasamudram, CEO of Audeze, emphasized the potential for growth under the Sony umbrella:
- Scaling business operations to reach a wider global audience.
- Maintaining the company’s core mission of providing reference-grade equipment to recording professionals and audiophiles.
- Collaborating on future projects to evolve the audio experience for PlayStation consoles.
Future of Audeze Products
While the acquisition is set to enhance Sony’s internal audio capabilities, the companies confirmed that Audeze will not shift to an exclusivity model immediately. The manufacturer will continue to develop and supply gaming headphones for other platforms, including the Xbox.
However, it is expected that future hardware releases will see tighter integration with Sony’s ecosystem. This development arrives as Sony prepares for the launch of the Portal, its $200 handheld device designed for PS5 game streaming. Beyond its gaming-centric products, Audeze’s portfolio includes high-end speakerphones and in-ear monitors used in professional studio environments.
The financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, with both parties citing contractual obligations. For further information on the strategic vision behind this move, you can read the official announcement.
