Meta is rolling out a new AI-powered feature for Threads called “Dear Algo,” designed to give users granular, temporary control over their content feeds. The tool enables individuals to dictate specific topics they wish to see more or less of by posting a public request directly on the platform.

To initiate a change, users simply create a public post starting with the phrase “Dear Algo,” followed by their preference. For instance, a user might post, “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts.” Once submitted, the algorithm adjusts the user’s feed to reflect these instructions for a period of three days.

A Public Approach to Personalization

Unlike standard settings menus, these requests are public. Other users can view these posts and even repost them to apply the same algorithmic filter to their own feeds. While some may view the public nature of these requests as a privacy drawback, Meta positions this as a community-driven discovery tool.

In a blog post, the company emphasized that Threads is intended for real-time engagement. The feature aims to help users adapt their experience instantly, whether they are tracking a live NBA game or avoiding spoilers for a show they haven’t seen yet.

Market Context and Availability

The rollout follows recent data from Similarweb, which indicated that Threads has overtaken X in daily mobile active users. As of January 7, 2026, Threads reported 141.5 million mobile daily active users compared to 125 million for X.

Currently, “Dear Algo” is accessible to users in the following regions:
