Atma Sciences is challenging the dominance of passive scrolling with Gizmo, a mobile platform that transforms the traditional vertical feed into an interactive playground. Instead of viewing static short-form videos, users engage with “Gizmos”—mini-applications that function as digital toys, puzzles, or memes.

The app has seen a rapid surge in popularity, recording approximately 600,000 installs since its quiet debut less than six months ago. Data from market intelligence firm Appfigures indicates that momentum is accelerating, with 235,000 downloads in December alone—a 50% increase compared to the previous month.

How Gizmo Works

Unlike platforms that require knowledge of coding languages such as Lua, Gizmo relies entirely on natural language. Users simply type an AI prompt describing their concept, and the app’s backend technology generates the code and visual assets required to make the experience functional.

The creation process includes several distinct steps:

• Prompting: Users input text describing the desired interactive experience.
• Generation: The AI builds the underlying code and renders the visuals.
• Refinement: Creators can modify their Gizmos after testing them in real-time.
• Safety: Every mini-app undergoes AI and human moderation before being cleared for the feed.

Once published, these creations appear in a scrollable feed where users can interact with them through touch, swipes, taps, and dragging. If a user encounters a Gizmo they enjoy, they have the option to “remix” it to create their own version, fostering a collaborative ecosystem.

New York-based Atma Sciences is the team behind the platform. The company is led by CEO Josh Siegel and CTO Daniel Amitay, alongside co-founders Rudd Fawcett and Brandon Francis. Financial backing for the startup includes a $5.49 million seed round led by First Round Capital, according to PitchBook data.

While the founders have remained largely out of the press, the app’s growth suggests a significant appetite for “vibe-coded” content. Gizmo is currently available for download on both iOS and Android, offering users a unique way to share interactive experiences via direct messages or custom URLs.
