Todoist Launches AI Voice Feature to Automate Task Lists
Doist, the developer behind the cross-platform task manager Todoist, has officially launched its new voice-to-task feature, Todoist Ramble. The tool allows users to bypass manual typing by describing their to-dos in natural, unstructured speech, which the AI then converts into structured entries.
Ramble processes audio in real time, capturing essential details such as deadlines, priority levels, duration, and assigned individuals. The system is designed to handle conversational adjustments; users can issue follow-up commands mid-stream, such as changing a due date to a specific day of the week or signaling that a task entry is complete.
Technical Foundation and Privacy
The feature operates under the Todoist Assist umbrella, utilizing Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI. This integration enables the low-latency speech recognition required for real-time interaction. Regarding data security, Doist confirms that audio streams are not stored or utilized for model training, and the application holds SOC2 Type II certification.
Performance Metrics and Beta Testing
Before the full release, Doist conducted extensive testing with its Experimental user group. The company reported the following performance milestones:
- Early Engagement: During the first three weeks of testing, 76,000 users completed approximately 290,000 Ramble sessions.
- Accuracy Gains: Task creation success rates rose from 40% in October to 62% by December.
- Conversion Impact: Users on the entry-level plan were five times more likely to upgrade their subscription after using the feature.
Availability
Starting today, Todoist Ramble is available across iOS, Android, desktop, and web platforms, supporting 38 languages. While all users can access the feature, those on the free beginner plan have a monthly session limit. Subscribers to Pro and Business plans receive unlimited access to the voice-to-task functionality. On mobile devices, users can trigger the tool via home screen shortcuts, widgets, or quick settings tiles.
