Latitude Launches Voyage: An AI-Powered RPG Creator
Latitude, the gaming startup recognized for its work in generative AI, has introduced a new platform called Voyage. The tool allows users to act as game designers, creating complex, text-based role-playing games (RPGs) where every interaction with non-player characters (NPCs) remains entirely unscripted.
Unlike traditional gaming experiences restricted by pre-written dialogue trees, Voyage utilizes artificial intelligence to generate dynamic world-building and character responses. Players can define specific game settings—ranging from cities and landmarks to complex questlines and villain motivations—while the platform handles the underlying mechanics, including combat systems and character leveling.

The World Engine Architecture
At the heart of the platform sits Latitude’s “World Engine,” a proprietary system developed over five years. This architecture manages narrative flow, tracks object permanence, and maintains character backstories to ensure continuity. If a player betrays an NPC, the system remembers that interaction, which may lead to that character acting as a rival in future gameplay.
Latitude CEO and co-founder Nick Walton describes the engine as a significant evolution from the company’s 2019 title, AI Dungeon. “Voyage takes that core concept and blows it up 10x farther from a single AI model to a full-blown world that you have deterministic systems, challenges, progression, and persistence,” Walton noted.
Gameplay and Community Impact
During the current expanded beta phase, the platform has already facilitated interaction with over 160,000 unique AI-generated characters. Average engagement metrics show that players have made nearly 3,000 gameplay decisions each, utilizing systems that mirror tabletop gaming mechanics, such as dice rolls for skill checks and specialized abilities.

Partnerships and Monetization
- Technology Integration: Latitude is partnering with Google’s AI Futures Fund, integrating models like Gemini Flash for imagery and Gemma for text and audio processing.
- Investment: Former Roblox Chief Business Officer Craig Donato has joined the board, alongside backing from firms like Griffin Gaming Partners, Midjourney, and NFX.
- Pricing: While the platform is currently free, upcoming subscription tiers will be priced at $15, $30, and $50, offering advanced features and removing action limits.
Walton emphasized that while the platform hosts a variety of content, safety measures and parental controls are in place to moderate mature experiences, which he compared to the content diversity found on platforms like Steam.
