Adobe Acrobat Adds Generative AI for PDF Editing and Summaries

Adobe is expanding the capabilities of Acrobat by integrating new generative AI tools designed to streamline document workflows. The latest update introduces the ability to edit files through text prompts, generate automated podcast summaries, and transform document collections into structured presentations.

Prompt-Based Editing and Workflow Automation

The core of this release is the ability to execute document modifications through natural language commands. Users can perform 12 specific actions, including:

• Removing pages, text, images, and comments.
• Finding and replacing specific words or phrases.
• Adding security layers such as passwords or electronic signatures.

Furthermore, Adobe is leveraging its PDF Spaces—a collaborative environment for shared files and notes—to facilitate automated presentation building. By analyzing content within a Space, the AI assistant generates a draft deck, which users can then refine using Adobe Express themes, stock assets, or personal branding materials.

Advanced AI Summarization

Beyond editing and creation, Adobe is introducing a feature that converts files or entire Spaces into podcasts. This functionality mirrors similar tools found in platforms like Google’s NotebookLM, Speechify, and ElevenLabs, offering a way to consume complex document information in audio format.

When sharing documents, the AI assistant now includes summaries with citations that link directly to specific sections of the source file. Users can also choose between different AI assistant personas—such as “analyst,” “instructor,” or “entertainer”—or define custom behaviors through prompts to tailor the output to their specific needs.
