CONTEUDO:
Apple Music is introducing a new metadata framework designed to bring clarity to the prevalence of artificial intelligence in the streaming ecosystem. The platform is now enabling record labels and music distributors to explicitly flag content that is either fully generated or partially assisted by AI.

The initiative, first reported by Music Business Worldwide, stems from a communication sent by Apple to industry partners this Wednesday. The update allows for specific labeling of AI involvement across several creative pillars of a release:
- Track: Identifying AI-generated audio files.
- Composition: Flagging lyrics or melodies created with AI assistance.
- Artwork: Labeling cover art produced by generative AI tools.
- Music Video: Disclosing the use of AI in visual production.
The Limitations of Voluntary Reporting
While the move addresses growing user curiosity regarding the authenticity of digital music, the system relies on an opt-in model. The responsibility to identify and declare the use of AI rests entirely with the labels and distributors. This manual approach mirrors the strategy currently adopted by Spotify, leaving the accuracy of the disclosures dependent on industry compliance.
Other players in the streaming market are exploring more automated methods. Deezer, for example, has been investing in proprietary detection technology to identify AI-generated tracks automatically, though the company has acknowledged the ongoing technical hurdles in achieving perfect accuracy.
The demand for such transparency has been building among listeners, with recent discussions on platforms like Reddit featuring user-created concepts for how AI labeling should appear in the Apple Music interface. Apple has not yet provided further details on whether these tags will be visible to end-users or how they will be enforced.
