The highly anticipated Battlefield 6 open beta faced an immediate surge of illicit activity following its weekend launch. Electronic Arts (EA) confirmed that it successfully blocked more than 330,000 attempts to cheat or manipulate anti-cheat protocols within the first 48 hours of the shooter going live.

Player reports flooded social media and forums shortly after the beta opened, with users documenting widespread instances of unfair play. In response, a representative from the EA anti-cheat team, identified as “AC,” disclosed that the company logged 104,000 specific user reports regarding potential cheaters during the initial two-day window.
Kernel-Level Security and Secure Boot
To combat unauthorized software, EA utilizes “Javelin,” a kernel-level anti-cheat system. By operating with the highest level of system privileges, Javelin is designed to monitor background processes that might be masquerading as legitimate programs to gain an unfair advantage. This approach mirrors strategies adopted by other major titles, such as Riot Games’ Valorant and Activision’s Call of Duty series.
The game also enforces Windows Secure Boot, a hardware-based security feature. However, EA clarified that this is not a comprehensive solution for eliminating misconduct:
- Secure Boot acts as an additional layer of defense rather than a “silver bullet.”
- It serves to complicate the development process for those creating cheat software.
- The feature assists EA in identifying and detecting malicious programs more effectively.
“Anti-Cheat isn’t one and done, it’s an ever-evolving battlefield,” the team noted in an official forum update. “What has worked for us previously or in different games doesn’t always work in all of them.”
The Ongoing Fight Against Game Hackers
While the volume of blocked attempts highlights the scale of the issue, EA has not yet provided specific figures regarding the number of player accounts permanently banned during the beta period. The challenge of maintaining a fair environment remains a central concern for developers across the industry.
Industry experts, including Riot Games’ anti-cheat director Phillip Koskinas, have previously noted that modern mitigation strategies involve a multi-faceted approach. Beyond software-based detection, this includes hardware fingerprinting to prevent repeat offenders from returning with new accounts and active monitoring of external communities where cheats are developed and distributed.
The open beta for Battlefield 6 continues to serve as a critical testing ground for these security measures as the development team works to refine its defenses ahead of the full release.
