ChatGPT Debuts ‘Your Year’ Review Feature for Users

OpenAI has introduced a new annual summary feature titled “Your Year with ChatGPT,” bringing a personalized retrospective experience to its chatbot users. Similar to the popular year-end recaps seen in other consumer platforms, the tool provides a look back at individual interaction history throughout the year.

Eligibility and Availability

The feature is currently rolling out to eligible consumers across several English-speaking regions, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Access is limited to specific account types:

  • Available for Free, Plus, and Pro plan users.
  • Requires “reference saved memories” and “reference chat history” settings to be enabled.
  • Users must meet a minimum threshold of conversation activity to generate the summary.
  • Enterprise, Team, and Education accounts are currently excluded from this rollout.

Personalized Insights and Awards

OpenAI designed the experience to be user-controlled, avoiding automatic pop-ups on the home screen. Instead, the review is presented as an optional, privacy-focused summary. The tool analyzes how an individual has utilized the AI, assigning specific “awards” based on behavior.

For example, a user who frequently uses the tool for troubleshooting or conceptual brainstorming might receive the “Creative Debugger” designation. Beyond titles, the system generates a custom poem and an image reflecting the user’s primary topics of interest throughout the year.

The feature is accessible via the ChatGPT web interface as well as the mobile applications for iOS and Android. Users who wish to view their summary can also trigger the experience by asking the chatbot directly for “Your Year with ChatGPT.”
