Google Launches $100 Fitbit Air: A Screenless Wearable

Google has officially entered the minimalist fitness tracker market with the debut of the Fitbit Air. This screenless wearable, priced at $100, is engineered for users who prefer a lightweight, unobtrusive device over bulkier smartwatches.

The device prioritizes comfort and continuous wear, aiming to provide health insights without the distraction of a display. It integrates directly with the newly rebranded Google Health app—which replaces the traditional Fitbit application—to centralize user data.

Design and Physical Specs

The Fitbit Air is significantly more compact than its predecessors. It is 25% smaller than the Fitbit Luxe and 50% smaller than the Inspire 3. Weighing just 12 grams with the band (and 5.2 grams without), it is designed to be worn alongside other devices, such as the Pixel Watch, for those who prefer a more discreet tracker during sleep or intense workouts.

The hardware includes several notable features:

  • Up to one week of battery life.
  • Fast charging: five minutes provides a full day of power.
  • Water resistance up to 50 meters.
  • Three available band styles: Performance Loop (recycled materials), Active Band (waterproof), and Elevated Modern.

Health and Wellness Capabilities

Despite its small size, the Fitbit Air packs a comprehensive suite of sensors. It provides 24/7 heart rate monitoring, heart rhythm tracking with notifications for atrial fibrillation (A-fib), blood oxygen levels, heart rate variability, and detailed sleep stage analysis.

Google has also introduced the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach to support premium subscribers. This AI-driven advisor creates personalized workout routines based on available equipment and individual goals, while also analyzing sleep patterns to offer actionable health improvements.

The Fitbit Air is currently available for preorder and will officially go on sale on May 26.
