Google TV Adds Gemini AI Features for Sports and Learning

Google has introduced three major Gemini-powered capabilities to its TV platform, marking a significant step in how viewers interact with their content. The update, announced this Tuesday, focuses on visual information retrieval, complex topic exploration, and automated sports coverage.

The rollout is currently limited to users in the United States and Canada. However, the company confirmed plans to extend these tools to Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom later this spring, with a broader international release scheduled thereafter.

Enhanced Visual Responses and Search

Among the new additions is a visual response system designed to make search results more actionable. When users query specific information, Gemini now generates live scorecards or relevant video content alongside traditional text.

For example, asking about a specific sports game will display the current score and provide direct links to where the match can be streamed. Similarly, searching for recipes triggers Gemini to suggest pertinent video tutorials to guide the user.

Deep Dives into Complex Topics

First teased at CES 2026, the “deep dive” feature is now accessible. This tool allows users to explore intricate subjects through narrated visual breakdowns. Whether the interest lies in technology, wellness, or economics, Gemini provides a structured overview of the topic.

Users can trigger these sessions in two ways:

  • Selecting the “Dive deeper” option within a Gemini response.
  • Navigating to the dedicated Gemini tab on the home screen and choosing “Learn.”

Automated Sports Briefs

To cater to sports enthusiasts, Google has launched “sports briefs.” This feature is specifically designed for users who want to stay informed on major leagues, such as the NBA, NHL, and MLB, without committing to hours of live coverage.

The feature provides narrated summaries of event highlights and key updates. This builds upon the “news briefs” capability introduced by the company a year prior, further integrating generative AI into the daily viewing habits of Google TV users.

Since its initial launch in September 2025—which was restricted to select TCL models—Gemini has expanded significantly. Recent updates have enabled users to adjust TV settings, such as screen brightness or audio balance, using natural language commands, as well as providing voice-activated access to personal Google Photos libraries.
