Healthify Upgrades AI Assistant Ria With Real-Time Voice

Healthify is rolling out a significant update to its AI health assistant, Ria, introducing real-time conversational capabilities that allow users to interact via voice and camera-based food recognition. The startup, which counts Khosla Ventures among its backers, aims to simplify health tracking by moving away from manual data entry toward a more fluid, assistant-led experience.

Powered by OpenAI’s technology, the new version of Ria supports more than 50 languages, including 14 Indian languages. The system is also designed to handle mixed-language inputs, such as Hinglish or Spanglish, making the interface more accessible for a global user base.

Advanced Capabilities and Integration

The updated Ria functions as a comprehensive health dashboard. Users can request summaries of their health metrics for specific periods, such as a day, week, or month. By pulling data from sources like glucose monitors, sleep trackers, and fitness wearables, the AI provides actionable insights regarding sleep quality, exercise readiness, and glucose fluctuations.

Key features of the upgraded assistant include:

  • Visual Food Logging: Similar to Google Gemini’s Live mode, users can point their camera at food items to identify nutritional content and log meals instantly.
  • Wearable Compatibility: The company demonstrated Ria’s integration with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses for hands-free interaction.
  • Contextual Memory: A new memory layer is being implemented to allow the app to retain long-term health preferences and history, ensuring suggestions remain personalized.
  • Professional Support: Ria can now be active during calls with nutritionists or coaches, transcribing sessions and providing instant access to data for both parties.

Strategic Focus on User Engagement

According to CEO Tushar Vashisht, the model was trained on years of conversational data between human coaches and users to ensure the advice provided is grounded and accurate. Paritosh Kumar, the company’s CPO, noted that the core objective is to leverage AI to solve user accountability. “We are focusing on creating a health ecosystem of nutrition-driven data with other integrations,” Kumar stated.

Healthify, which claims over 45 million registered users, is introducing a new U.S.-based AI plan priced at $20 per month. This subscription includes the enhanced Ria assistant and structured meal planning. The company is also exploring potential partnerships for GLP-1 weight-loss programs and expects to integrate data from more health-tracking device manufacturers in the coming months.

Looking ahead, Vashisht indicated that the startup may pursue a new funding round, supported by strong growth and adoption within the United States market. The company also plans to use the updated AI to overhaul its user onboarding process, utilizing unstructured conversations to gather more meaningful insights from the start of the user journey.

While competitors like MyFitnessPal, Alma, and Ladder have also implemented voice and image-based tracking, Healthify believes its combination of live conversation, data aggregation, and specialized training data provides a distinct competitive edge.
