While Mastodon operates on the ActivityPub protocol and Bluesky utilizes the AT Protocol, Indigo integrates these networks into a single, cohesive timeline.
Ben McCarthy, co-creator of Indigo and developer of the Obscura apps, stated that the project leverages the team’s prior development experience with Croissant to offer a standalone application tailored for power users of the open social web.

Indigo provides several tools designed to streamline the management of multiple social accounts:
- Visual Distinction: Bluesky profiles are marked with a blue outline, while Mastodon profiles appear in purple within the feed.
- Universal Search: Enables users to find content across both networks from a single search bar.
- Customization: Includes options to hide NSFW content, mute specific users or keywords, filter replies, and enable dark mode.
- Cross-posting: A built-in composer allows users to publish updates to both platforms simultaneously.
- Activity Management: Users can access lists, custom feeds, and notifications from both services through a centralized menu.
The application is currently available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Access to advanced features, such as cross-posting and synchronized timelines, requires a subscription. Pricing is set at $4.99 per month or $34.99 annually, with a $119.99 lifetime purchase option available for users committed to the open social web.
