Instagram Tests New Ways to Customize Your Feed
Instagram is exploring new methods to grant users greater control over the content they encounter daily. Adam Mosseri, head of the platform, recently shared a preview of features designed to make the “Your Algorithm” tool a more prominent part of the user experience.

Launched last year, the “Your Algorithm” feature currently allows users to signal specific topics they prefer to see more or less of. Mosseri indicated that the platform is now looking to integrate this tool more deeply into the app’s core navigation rather than keeping it tucked away as a secondary setting.
Expanding Personalization Tools
In a recent social media post, Mosseri highlighted several experimental ways users might soon interact with their feed preferences:
- Feed gestures: Pulling down on the main feed could trigger the “Your Algorithm” menu directly.
- Reel interactions: Swiping up on a Reel might present a prompt for immediate customization.
- Direct feedback: Buttons placed beneath Reels could allow users to instantly indicate if they want to see more content similar to what is currently displayed.
Regarding the current development status, Mosseri noted, “We want to evolve Your Algorithm from a setting to something that feels central to your experience on Instagram.” He also clarified that the rollout is still in flux, adding, “Some of this is testing now, some is coming soon, some might not work.”
User Feedback and Demand
While the platform seeks to improve algorithmic control, user sentiment remains focused on chronological content. The most engaged comments on Mosseri’s announcement reflect a consistent demand from the community, with one user stating, “WE JUST WANT OUR ALGORITHM TO SHOW THE PPL WE FOLLOW.”
The company has been steadily introducing these personalization tools to various sections of the app, attempting to balance automated content curation with individual user preferences.
