CONTEUDO:
Meta is integrating real-time news into its AI chatbot, Meta AI, through a series of new commercial data agreements with several major media organizations. The company confirmed on Friday that users can now receive live updates on breaking news, entertainment, and global events directly within the conversational interface.

When Meta AI generates responses to news-related queries, it will now pull information from these partner sources. To ensure transparency and drive traffic back to original reporting, the chatbot will provide direct links to the articles, allowing users to verify facts and explore further details on the publishers’ websites.
Key Media Partnerships
Meta has secured deals with a diverse range of outlets to broaden the perspective of its AI responses. The current list of partners includes:
- CNN
- Fox News and Fox Sports
- Le Monde Group
- The People Inc. portfolio
- The Daily Caller
- The Washington Examiner
- USA Today
The company indicated that this is an initial phase, with plans to expand its list of partners moving forward. Through these collaborations, Meta aims to offer users a wider variety of viewpoints and more accurate, timely information.
Strategic Shift in Media Relations
This initiative marks a significant change in how Meta engages with the news industry. In recent years, the tech giant had moved away from prioritizing news, notably shutting down Facebook’s dedicated “News” tab in 2024 and ceasing payments to U.S. publishers in 2022. The return to compensating news organizations signals a strategic push to enhance the capabilities of its AI systems.
In an official announcement, Meta stated: “Real-time events can be challenging for current AI systems to keep up with, but by integrating more and different types of news sources, our aim is to improve Meta AI’s ability to deliver timely and relevant content and information with a wide variety of viewpoints and content types.”
Competitive Pressure
The move comes as Meta intensifies efforts to attract users to its AI platform amidst stiff market competition. The company is also working to regain momentum in the AI sector following the release of Llama 4 earlier this year, which drew criticism regarding its performance. Currently, Meta AI is accessible in over 200 countries across the company’s suite of applications, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and its standalone app.
Meta previously stopped compensating news publishers in 2022, but is now doing so to help supercharge its AI chatbot with real-time access to news.
