Meta Debuts Hyperscape to Turn Real Spaces Into VR Worlds
Meta has officially launched Hyperscape, a technology designed to transform physical environments into high-fidelity virtual reality experiences. Announced during the Meta Connect developer conference, the tool enters early access today, enabling users to create digital replicas of real-world rooms using their headsets.
The system is currently available to owners of the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S who are 18 years of age or older. While the initial room-scanning process is completed in just a few minutes, Meta notes that the subsequent rendering phase requires a few hours to process the photorealistic environment.

How Hyperscape Works
First teased at last year’s conference, Hyperscape leverages Gaussian splatting, streaming, and cloud rendering to achieve its visual results. While users cannot currently invite others into these private digital spaces, Meta confirmed that support for social sharing via private links is planned for the future.
The company has already utilized the technology to showcase several high-profile environments, including:
- Gordon Ramsay’s home kitchen in Los Angeles.
- The Octagon at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
- Chance the Rapper’s “House of Kicks.”
- A dedicated room showcasing Happy Kelli’s extensive Crocs collection.
Broader Metaverse Expansion
The rollout of Hyperscape is part of a wider push to expand Meta’s VR ecosystem. Alongside the capture tool, the company announced a slate of new VR titles and media partnerships:
- Gaming: New titles including Marvel’s Deadpool VR, ILM’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory, Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, and Reach.
- Entertainment: The Horizon TV streaming app will gain Disney+ integration, covering Hulu and ESPN content.
- Immersive Cinema: A partnership with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse will bring horror titles like M3GAN and The Black Phone to the platform with special effects, alongside a limited-time 3D clip of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Because the release is being handled as a gradual rollout, the feature may not appear for all eligible users immediately.
