Meta to Test Premium Subscriptions on Instagram and Facebook
Meta is preparing to introduce a suite of premium subscription options across its core platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The company confirmed on Monday that these paid tiers will focus on providing users with enhanced creative tools, productivity features, and expanded artificial intelligence capabilities.

The strategy involves maintaining the current free experience for all users while rolling out distinct, app-specific bundles in the coming months. Meta indicated that it is currently evaluating various subscription models, moving beyond the framework established by its existing “Meta Verified” program.
AI Integration and Premium Tools
A central pillar of this initiative is the integration of Manus, an AI agent recently acquired by Meta for $2 billion. The company intends to offer Manus as both a standalone subscription for business users and as a feature integrated directly into its social apps. Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi has already identified evidence of a shortcut to Manus AI currently under development for Instagram.
Meta also plans to shift its “Vibes” video generation tool toward a freemium model. Previously free since its launch last year, the AI-powered video creation experience will offer a limited set of free tools, with a subscription required to unlock higher monthly production volumes.
Exclusive Features and User Experience
While details for WhatsApp and Facebook remain under wraps, early testing on Instagram suggests a focus on user control and audience management. According to Paluzzi’s findings, potential paid features on Instagram include:
- Creation of unlimited audience lists.
- Visibility into followers who do not follow the user back.
- An “incognito” mode for viewing Stories without alerting the poster.
These upcoming subscriptions are distinct from Meta Verified, which primarily serves creators and businesses with account security, direct support, and verification badges. Meta stated that it aims to leverage insights from the Meta Verified rollout to build offerings tailored to the needs of everyday users and creators alike.
The move follows the success of competitors like Snapchat, whose Snapchat+ service has reached over 16 million subscribers. As Meta prepares for this rollout, the company plans to monitor community feedback to refine its approach to subscription tiers in an increasingly crowded market for digital services.
