CONTEUDO:
Jimmy Donaldson, globally known as MrBeast, has voiced significant apprehension regarding the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence and its potential to disrupt the digital creator economy. The world’s most-followed creator, who currently holds the top spot on Forbes’ 2025 list of top creators with 634 million followers and $85 million in earnings, labeled the current technological shift as “scary times” for the industry.

In a social media statement released this Monday, Donaldson questioned the long-term impact of AI-generated video on the millions of individuals who rely on content creation as their primary source of income. Given his massive influence, his concerns highlight a growing anxiety among professional creators regarding whether their roles will remain viable as automation tools become more sophisticated.
The AI Landscape and Industry Shifts
The creator’s comments arrive shortly after the debut of OpenAI’s Sora 2. This updated audio and video generation model features a mobile application that allows users to produce AI content—including self-generated videos—for a vertical feed similar to TikTok. The app has seen rapid adoption, reaching the number one spot on the U.S. App Store shortly after launch.
Simultaneously, major platforms are integrating AI deeper into their ecosystems:
- YouTube: The platform has launched AI editing tools and integrated its Veo video model, allowing creators to animate still images and apply stylistic filters.
- Production Efficiency: AI is being utilized to generate highlights from live streams and podcasts.
- Management Support: YouTube Studio now includes an AI chatbot designed to assist creators with technical and operational inquiries.
A Complicated Relationship with Technology
Despite his current warnings, Donaldson’s history with AI is nuanced. Earlier this summer, he faced public backlash after introducing an AI-powered thumbnail generation tool on his analytics platform, Viewstats. He eventually removed the feature, opting to replace it with a directory connecting creators to human artists for commission work. Additionally, his philanthropic organization has previously invested in AI initiatives.
The industry remains divided on whether AI will democratize content creation or saturate platforms with low-quality media, often disparagingly referred to as “slop.” Beyond the quality debate, there is a looming concern regarding audience trust. If creators utilize AI without transparency, they risk damaging their reputations and losing the authentic connection with their fanbases that is essential for long-term success.
