Particle AI News App Adds Podcast Clipping Feature
The AI-driven news platform Particle, founded by former Twitter engineers, is expanding its reach beyond web-based journalism. Ahead of its official Android launch, the app has introduced “Podcast Clips,” a feature designed to isolate and present relevant audio segments from a wide array of podcasts directly within the user’s news feed.

Instead of requiring users to sift through long-form audio to find specific commentary, Particle allows for immediate playback of the most pertinent 45-second segments. The app also provides real-time transcripts, with text highlighting as the audio plays, ensuring users can consume information in their preferred format.
“We’ve done that basically for any news story — if there is a podcast that is talking about it, or relevant at all, we’ve got all those clips,” Particle CEO Sara Beykpour explained. According to Beykpour, the goal is to provide a broader perspective on current events by surfacing diverse commentary alongside traditional reporting.
How the AI Technology Works
The system relies on embedding models to categorize audio content. Beykpour clarified that while these models originate from the same providers behind Large Language Models (LLMs), they are distinct from generative AI technologies. Particle utilizes vector embeddings to map specific podcast segments to relevant news topics, while proprietary logic determines the precise start and end points for each clip.

Transcription services for the feature are powered by ElevenLabs, though the underlying clipping intelligence remains part of the company’s internal technology stack. This focus on audio analysis reflects a broader industry trend; major outlets like The New York Times have similarly begun using AI tools to monitor and summarize podcast content to track influencer sentiment and breaking news.
Broader Platform Updates
Beyond the clipping tool, Particle has introduced several significant changes:
- Entity Mapping: Users can visit dedicated pages for notable figures—such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman—to view a chronological feed of their podcast appearances.
- Monetization: The company launched “Particle+,” a subscription service priced at $2.99/month or $29.99/year, offering personalized AI summaries, custom voice options for audio feeds, and advanced chatbot capabilities.
- Expanded Discovery: The Android version includes a “Browse” tab featuring timely events, such as the 2026 Winter Olympics, and enriched entity pages with definitions and related articles.

While Particle has not disclosed specific user conversion metrics, the app maintains a strong international footprint. Currently, 55% of the platform’s weekly active users are located outside the United States, with India standing as the second-largest market, accounting for 15% of the user base.
