reMarkable Paper Pure Debuts as a Monochrome Powerhouse

reMarkable is pivoting back to its roots with the launch of the Paper Pure, a monochrome e-paper tablet designed to refine the focused, distraction-free experience that defined its predecessor. After a six-year run for the reMarkable 2, this new $399 device aims to modernize the platform with upgraded internal hardware and expanded software connectivity.

The Paper Pure maintains a 10.3-inch diagonal screen, but the manufacturer has opted for a wider chassis to improve ergonomics for reading and note-taking. While the resolution remains consistent with previous models at 1872 x 1404 pixels (226 PPI), the internal architecture has seen significant upgrades.

Performance and Hardware Upgrades

The transition to the Paper Pure brings several tangible improvements for daily users:

• Storage: Capacity has been quadrupled to 32GB.
• Responsiveness: A 50% increase in input speed compared to the reMarkable 2.
• Battery Life: A 3,820 mAh battery provides a 30% boost in longevity.
• Weight: The device is now 40 grams lighter, totaling 360 grams.

Software and Workflow Integration

Beyond the hardware, reMarkable is positioning the Paper Pure as a serious productivity tool through deep software integrations. The device now supports a dedicated web app, allowing users to sync calendars and share meeting-specific notes directly. Furthermore, cloud-stored documents are automatically converted into tablet-ready notebooks for easier annotation.

Collaboration is a key focus in this iteration. The tablet now integrates with Slack, enabling the conversion of handwritten notes into typed text for team communication, and with Miro, allowing users to share sketches and visual concepts across platforms. The company has also introduced enhanced handwriting search capabilities to help users manage their digital archives.

Availability and Support

While the Norwegian manufacturer is phasing out the reMarkable 2, it has committed to maintaining software updates and ongoing support for existing owners. The Paper Pure is available to order starting today, with shipping scheduled for early June. The base model includes a standard stylus, while a $449 bundle upgrades the package to include the Marker Plus—which features a built-in eraser—and a protective sleeve folio.

To date, reMarkable reports having sold over 3.5 million tablets, with 1.2 million users currently subscribed to its Connect service. The subscription provides additional benefits, including unlimited cloud storage, unique templates, and advanced note-sharing features.
