Samsung Unveils Galaxy S26 Series and Privacy Display Tech

Samsung took the stage in San Francisco this Wednesday to debut its latest flagship lineup, the Galaxy S26 series, alongside a new generation of Galaxy Buds. The event focused heavily on integrating advanced artificial intelligence agents directly into the user experience, while introducing a notable hardware-level privacy feature for the premium model.

The New Galaxy S26 Lineup

The company confirmed three distinct models for the year: the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and the flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra. While the designs offer iterative updates over previous iterations, the internal specifications mark a significant shift.

  • Galaxy S26 Ultra: Equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a 6.9-inch QHD+ display, and a 5,000 mAh battery. It supports the S-Pen and offers fast charging, reaching 75% capacity in 30 minutes with a 60 W charger.
  • Camera Upgrades: The Ultra retains a 200MP wide and 50MP telephoto setup but features improved apertures of f/1.4 and f/2.9, respectively.
  • Pricing: The S26 starts at $899, the S26 Plus at $1,099, and the S26 Ultra at $1,200. These prices represent a $100 increase for the base and Plus models compared to last year.

Enhanced Privacy Controls

A standout addition to the S26 Ultra is the new privacy display technology. This feature allows users to obscure specific parts of their screen—such as notification banners or password fields—to prevent onlookers from viewing sensitive information.

Users can configure these privacy settings on a per-app basis. Additionally, a “maximum privacy protection” mode adjusts display brightness and contrast to further limit visibility to anyone not directly in front of the screen.

Google’s Sameer Samat joined the event to demonstrate a new “agentic” version of Gemini. This tool is designed to perform complex, multi-step actions autonomously, such as analyzing a group chat to determine and place a food delivery order on Grubhub or hailing an Uber.

Furthermore, Samsung is expanding its AI ecosystem by partnering with Perplexity. This collaboration sees the Perplexity app preloaded on new devices, with its APIs powering search and productivity tasks like note-taking and alarm setting. These join Bixby and Gemini to offer users a trio of AI assistants, alongside Galaxy AI features for call screening and summarization.

Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro

Rounding out the hardware announcements, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro. Both models feature a redesigned flatter stem and carry IP54 and IP57 ratings for dust and water resistance.

The Pro version includes an upgraded 11mm woofer, providing a 20% larger speaker area, and features improved battery life over the standard model. The Galaxy Buds4 are priced at $179, while the Pro model retails for $250.
