SaySo Launches Short-Form Video App to Combat News Misinfo

A new short-form video platform, SaySo, has officially launched for iOS users in the U.S. and Canada. Developed by the media company Caliber, the app aims to replace the chaotic, algorithm-driven feeds of major platforms with a curated environment focused on verified reporting and independent journalism.

The arrival of SaySo follows a private beta period that began last November. The platform is designed to address growing audience fatigue regarding AI-generated content and misinformation, which have increasingly cluttered mainstream social media feeds.

Prioritizing Accountability and Verification

To combat the erosion of trust in digital news—highlighted by a Pew Research study showing only 56% of U.S. adults express confidence in national news media—SaySo implements strict content requirements. Creators are mandated to include primary sources directly within their videos.

“Content doesn’t auto-publish,” says Dion Bailey, co-founder and CTO. “Everything goes through a moderation queue, so most problems are caught before they reach readers. If something slips through and gets flagged, we investigate, address it directly with the creator, and take it down if it crosses the line.”

The platform utilizes a hybrid approach to moderation, combining human oversight with AI tools. Additionally, the company is developing a “community notes” feature to facilitate crowdsourced fact-checking, mirroring systems currently used by platforms like X and TikTok.

A Curated User Experience

Unlike competitors that rely on “infinite scroll” mechanics, SaySo focuses on intentional consumption. Key features include:

  • Daily Digest: A personalized selection of videos based on user-selected topics such as politics, public health, and social issues, which refreshes every 20 hours.
  • Explore Page: A section for discovering content from a broader range of vetted creators.
  • Social Tools: Standard engagement features, including the ability to follow creators, save content, comment, and share.

The Road Ahead for Caliber

At launch, the app features approximately 30 onboarded creators, including independent journalist Isabel Ravenna, social change advocate Dr. Victoria, and Nico Agosta, known for his financial reporting on Congress.

Ramin Beheshti, CEO and co-founder of SaySo and former chief product and tech officer at Dow Jones, noted that many initial creators are operating as founding partners. While the company is currently building out its monetization infrastructure, Beheshti confirmed that the goal is to direct the vast majority of future revenue to creators. The company, formerly known as The News Movement, plans to expand SaySo into the U.K. this summer, with further international scaling slated for 2027.
