Spotify Adds Narrated Magazine Articles to Audio Library
Spotify is expanding its platform beyond music and podcasts by introducing a collection of narrated long-form magazine articles. Starting this Tuesday, the company is integrating more than 650 pieces of journalism into its app, marking another step in its strategy to dominate the audio landscape.

The new content library features articles from major publications, including Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, Wired, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork. Currently, these narrations are available exclusively in English.
Access and Monetization
The streaming giant is embedding these articles into its existing audiobook ecosystem. Premium subscribers can access the narrated content as part of their monthly 15-hour audiobook listening quota. For those using the free tier of the service, Spotify offers the option to purchase individual articles for $1.99 each.
According to the company, the narrations are produced by its internal audiobooks team using a combination of human voice talent and digital narration. Spotify confirmed that any content utilizing AI-generated voices will be explicitly labeled for the listener.
Strategic Audio Goals
Colleen Prendergast, licensing lead at Spotify Audiobooks, stated in an official blog post that the initiative aims to cultivate consistent listening habits. By offering shorter-form content, the company hopes to encourage users to eventually transition toward longer formats, such as full-length audiobooks.
This expansion complements the existing Audiobook Access plan, priced at $9.99 per month, and the Audiobooks+ plan, which costs $11.99 monthly and offers double the standard listening time.
Broadening the Audio Ecosystem
This rollout arrives amidst a series of aggressive updates from the streamer. In recent weeks, Spotify has leaned heavily into AI-driven audio, including features for AI-generated podcasts, tools for authors to create audiobooks, and support for AI-powered remixes. The addition of magazine articles serves as a bridge between the company’s established music streaming and its growing portfolio of high-value audio content.
